The authorities of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have finally decided to address problems in the Corporation’s grievance-redressal mechanism by setting up a special wing to monitor it and verify outcomes.

The special wing will be assigned the responsibility of checking with the complainant, the GHMC officer, who was assigned the complaint, and the Deputy Commissioner as to whether the issue has resolved before closing it. It will have the authority to re-open and re-assign complaints that it does not find them to be satisfactorily resolved.

A senior GHMC official said that the civic body had decided to start verifying whether grievances had been addressed in order to curb the improper use of the grievance redressal mechanism by officials. He said that complainants would be given detailed information about the status of their complaints, along with relevant photographic evidence. He said that officials from the Centralised Grievance Redressal System Wing of the GHMC would call citizens to check whether their complaints had been resolved. The official said that the corporation was also contemplating imposing fines on officials for closing complaints without addressing them
