Transport department authorities have blamed the driver of the ill-fated tractor for the accident. “Tractor is not a commercial vehicle and it is even more dangerous to travel in the trolley. The trolley only has two wheels and is not designed for carrying passengers,” said Y. Surender Reddy, DTO Yadadri Bhuvangiri.

The official said that they frequently register cases when they come around such violations. “It is generally in villages that people prefer tractors as a mode of transport from one village to another. We often take up awareness programmes and ask commercial tractor drivers against employing their vehicles for carrying passengers,” he said.

This is a second such incident involving a tractor in the state in the last three months. In April, nine women farm workers were killed when the tractor they were travelling in fell into the Akkampally Balancing Reservoir canal at Vaddipatla village in the district.
